The City of Melbourne is located along Florida’s
Space Coast approximately 1 hour south of the Kennedy Space
Center and 1 ½ hours due east of Disney World, in Brevard
It is conveniently located along Interstate
95 at exit 183 east; the Beeline Expressway and State Road
192 run through Melbourne to the beaches. Direct access to
the Atlantic Ocean is through several inlets and the Sebastian
Inlet at the southern end of Brevard County.
The majority of Melbourne is located on the
Florida mainland protected by the barrier island and the Indian
River Lagoon. The mainland is connected to the island by way
of two four-lane, high-rise bridges – the Melbourne
Causeway and the Eau Gallie Causeway.
The Space Coast is known as a high-tech center
of the Southeast. Major employers in the Melbourne vicinity
Melbourne International Airport, Harris Corporation,
Rockwell Collins, Northrop Grumman Corporation, GE Transportation
Systems, Rossi Electronics, Florida TODAY (Gannet) Newspaper,
Florida Institute of Technology, Brevard Community College
and Holmes Regional Hospital.
Melbourne promotes economic development and
is actively engaged in revitalization efforts in three areas

metropolitan area has been ranked as one of the most affordable
in the nation for homebuyers in a survey by the National Association
of Home Builders. The 1998 "Money" Magazine 'Best
Places' survey rated Melbourne and Brevard County 7th among
medium-sized Southern communities.
The City of Melbourne was created as the result
of a merger of Melbourne and Eau Gallie in 1969. The city
is approximately 35.4 square miles with a population of about
75,000. City hall is located at 900 East Strawbridge Avenue,
approximately one block west of U.S. 1 and U.S. 192.
